Catnip, or Nepeta cataria, is a common herb of the mint family. For humans it is used to make tea and flowers are said to relieve cough. that is a member of the Mint family. Cats have an extra scent organ called the vomeronasal gland in the roof of their mouth. This special pathway allows scents collected in the nose and mouth to be carried to the brain.
Catnip has an ingredient called Nepataloctone oil and it was found to change cats' behavior. It mimics cats' feline sex hormones which display behaviors such as affection, relaxation, and happiness. Some cats can also display active behaviors such as playfulness. It can help reduce anxiety and even relieve pain.
